July 14
by Chris Bopst
As the old saying goes, you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar — but I always wondered who would want to attract flies in the first place. Certainly not Death Sex Advocates. The Cincinnati hardcore-noise punks are straight vinegar. A torrent of zit-popping aggressions, the group’s face is covered in pimples ready to burst. The moments of relative sweetness on its self-titled 2014 full-length release (the rise and fall of “Rabid Lust” and the sullen “He’s Not Worth It”) are fleeting. Each hint of mercy is followed by gleefully fiendish, dentist-drill distortions. Shrill, caustic and combative, Death Sex Advocates headlines a night of divisive entertainments that includes Richmond assault systems Orgasm, Brown Piss, R-Complex and Methcharge at Strange Matter on Tuesday, July 14. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $7. strangematterrva.com.
