I wonder how many people realize that Richmond has a professional football team — and no, not the Redskins, even though it may feel like it to city taxpayers. The Richmond Raiders, one of seven teams in the Professional Indoor Football League, are our hometown team. And eight games into their 14-game regular season, the Raiders are 4-4 and poised to make a playoff run going into their next game against the Trenton Freedom on Saturday, May 23, at the Richmond Coliseum. The fast-paced version of the second-most popular sport on the planet — the Richmond Kickers play the world’s most popular version of football — not only is a thrill-a-second, offensive bonanza compared with the NFL, but also doesn’t cost the arm, portion of your liver and both legs that Roger Goodell and Co. charge to attend a game. The fun starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $7 to $180. richmondraidersprofootball.com.
